New Flaxmere sections ready for homes

A celebration of the completion of the first of three large Flaxmere housing developments is being planned for this month (keep an eye on the @myflaxmere Facebook page for details).

The finishing touches were going in at 244 Flaxmere Ave last month, ahead of the official opening of the development. It will include a ribbon cutting for the new Whakaruru Avenue, named for the late Steve Whakaruru who was instrumental in the conception and creation of Te Aranga Marae.

The development will deliver 19 individual sections and two ‘super lots’, the latter enabling higher density duplex and/or terrace housing. Covenants on the sections mean the homes built by the developers Veros and the New Zealand Housing Foundation will be sold to first home buyers. Progressive purchasing options – rent to own and shared equity – will be available, alongside traditional purchasing methods. Buyers of the completed homes must agree to stay in their homes for a minimum of five years. The covenants are designed to ensure they cannot be bought by speculators or landlords.

Council advises that builders are expected to be on site from August, subject to consent conditions being achieved.

The developers are expected to be at the opening, sharing their artist’s impressions of the new homes.
